Overview

This 7-day birding tour will take you to explore a wonderful part of the Atlantic Forest located in diﬀerent altitudes between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in two of the best locations for birding in Brazil: Ubatuba (Serra do Mar State Park) and Itatiaia National Park.

The forests of the Serra do Mar State Park shelter and protect hundreds of species of birds and other endangered animals: jaguar, puma, ocelot, muriqui, tapir, paca, sloths, toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, bellbird, guans and hundreds of other birds. The province of Ubatuba is covered by more than 90% by forest! Here you can explore Mangrove forests, the Restinga (sandy soils) and Tropical moist broadleaf forest. At Ubatuba were observed more than 500 species of birds including lot of endemics and rare. This is a very high number considering that in all Brazil are present more than 1800 species.

Itatiaia National Park provides many of Brazil's endemic species. Specialties in the park include Saﬀron Toucanets, Red-breasted Toucan, Green-crowned Plovercrest, Surucua Trogon, Blond-crested Woodpecker, Itatiaia Spinetail, Slaty Bristlefront, Shrike-like and Black-and-Gold Cotinga, a fabulous variety of hummingbirds and many more for a total of about 400 species registered.
