Atlantic Forest

Serra do Mar State Park

The Serra do Mar State Park was created in 1977 and is currently the largest protected area in the Atlantic Forest with an extension of 332,000 hectares. It is a true ecological corridor linking the most significant remnants of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, from Rio de Janeiro to Paraná States.
The forests of the park shelter and protect hundreds of species of birds and other endangered animals: jaguar, puma, ocelot, muriqui, tapir, paca, raccoon, toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, bellbird, guans and hundreds of other birds.

Due to its enormous extension, the park was divided in ten administrative centers: Bertioga, Caraguatatuba, Cunha, Curucutu, Itariru, Itutinga Piloes, Padre Doria, Picinguaba, Santa Virgínia and Sao Sebastiao. Each center has its characteristics, forming a mosaic of landscapes, biodiversity, social interaction and environmental preservation.

The province of Ubatuba is part of the Picinguaba center, its territory is covered by more than 90% by forest! Here were observed more than 500 species of birds! This is a very high number considering that in all Brazil are present more than 1800 species.
At Ubatuba it's easy to spot endemic and endangered birds, check out our proposal!
